Blackground Relaunches with EMPIRE & Single

On August 5th 2021, Blackground Records announced the launch of Blackground 2.0 and the reissue of their 17 iconic past albums in partnership with EMPIRE. This included treasures from Aaliyah, Timbaland & Magoo, Toni Braxton, JoJo, & Ashley Parker Angel.

Single is proud to provide d2c music tools to EMPIRE - who relied on Single’s automated toolset for this relaunch. Blackground used Single’s digital delivery and reporting services to maintain full control of album sales and ensure that each counted on the Billboard charts.

 

Digital Delivery & Reporting

Single Music provides a white labeled solution for delivering digital music in artist & label Shopify stores. This allows for a seamless and branded experience for fans as they check out, receive and download their digital music. Digital albums are reported in their respective territories - to the Billboard Charts, OCC or ARIA. 

 

Physical Album & Boxset Reporting

Blackground also used Single’s physical reporting tool to report the physical repressings to the Billboard charts. They ran pre-orders on various physical offerings, and Single automatically reported individual sales as they were fulfilled in Shopify.

The storefront took advantage of Billboard’s Box Set rule, which meant that the albums sold within these box sets counted towards the Billboard charts. Storefronts must follow very strict guidelines set aside for merch + album box sets, otherwise standard “merchandise bundles” do not count as an album sale.
